STORM SIGN GOALTENDER
Tue, Jun 08 2010

The Grande Prairie Storm has added some size to their team – and it’s not on defence or forward.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League team announced today that goaltender Colin Dzijacky, six feet tall and 190 pounds, will join the club for the start of the 2010-2011 campaign.

Dzijacky, a native of Dryden, Ont., put up some impressive numbers playing Midget AAA with the Thunder Bay Major Midget Kings last season.

In 48 games he had 28 wins, 11 losses and three ties with five shutouts, a goals-against average of just 2.71 and a save percentage of .912.

He carried the Kings to the Telus West Regional Championships where he played in all three of his team’s tournament games last spring and led the tournament in save percentage at .910 while making 111 saves allowing 11 goals.

“We are excited to be adding Colin to our roster,” said Storm coach/general manage Mike Vandekamp. “He is a good, young goaltender – a competitor and a winner. “

Dzijacky, who turns 18 on Monday, also played Junior B hockey where he was the No. 1 netminder in the league with a .927 percentage and 2.12 GAA.

He also took part in several tournaments last year where he was the No. 1 netminder at the Northern Lakes Hockey League Tournament; the top netminder in round-robin play at the Madison Capital tournament; a tournament all-star and top netminder in round-robin play at the Kelowna International Major Midget Tournament; and helped his team to a goal medal, while posting two shutouts and a shootout win, at the Thunder Bay Junior B Pre-Season Tournament.

He was also nominated for the Esso Kids Scholarship Program – Most Dedicated Athletic Award at the regional level.

“Colin is a character person who is going to fit into the culture of the Storm,” Vandekamp said. “We welcome Colin to the Storm Family.”

The AJHL schedule is expected to be out later this month and details on the team’s exhibition season should be announced in the next few weeks as well.
